Health 101: What Health Is

Back To Main
Money 404: Coming To The End

Even though everyone talks about health, people usually value it after losing it

Health, stated broadly, is a state of freedom from illness or injury

  • Physical injuries
  • Sickness, frailty and the consequences of aging
  • Mental illness
  • Psychological instability
  • Any state of unrest, pain or misery

Health is the ability to do everything your body is capable of doing

Attaining anything else at the expense of long-term health is never worth it

Though it’s unpopular to believe, health takes dedicated work to maintain and improve it

Maintaining or improving health requires many different skills

The ability to be self-aware of the body and mind within the context of the world

Happiness to maintain the positive mental chemical state that allows faster healing and better living

Productivity in exercise and play to build enough self-confidence to maintain health

Money management to finance recreation and diet that create a healthy lifestyle

Excellent health is always possible and is simple to learn, but most people pursue meaningless shortcuts

Hygiene isn’t health

Freedom from odors, germs, and dirt isn’t health; it’s hygiene

Though hygiene does matter to conform to society, it’s not as essential as health

  • To a point, great hygiene will likely lead to healthier living
  • Too much hygiene, however, will lead to very few micro-organisms invading and will weaken your immune system

Consistent washing is vital to stay hygienic

Scrub your body with soap and water

  • Soap chemically attaches itself to the soil on the skin and is then washed away with water
  • Antibacterial soap doesn’t perform any differently from ordinary soap, but can often damage the skin’s microscopic ecosystem
  • Bar soap is cheaper, lasts longer, has a longer lingering scent, and is more ecologically friendly than body wash
    • When your soap has worn down to a sliver, conserve it by attaching it while wet to a new bar
  • You can make soap yourself
    1. Mix a pack glycerin soap base in a pot and let it melt
    2. Add in ten drops lemon oil and pieces of lemon, mix well, add sand if desired
    3. Pour into a mold and add sand if desired
    4. Push it in using toothpicks and allow it to dry overnight
  • You can also make soap safe for children
    1. Mix a pack glycerin soap base in a pot and let it melt
    2. Add in ten drops of rose oil and ten drops of sandalwood oil and mix well
    3. Pour into a mold and have kids add decorations (e.g., seashells, sand, small toys)
    4. Push it in using toothpicks and allow it to dry overnight

Wash your hair with shampoo

  • If your hair squeaks when you pull on it, you haven’t rinsed all the shampoo out
  • Routine hair washing often dries it out and washing too frequently can cause dandruff
    • Though most people wash once a day, wash every few days for the body’s oils to come back into the hair
    • There are other cures for dandruff
      • Shower with cooler water
      • Add vodka to shampoo to moisturize the scalp and strengthen hair
      • Rub aloe vera onto the scalp
  • Make shampoo yourself
    1. Pour a cup of apple cider vinegar into a bottle and thoroughly mix in five tablespoons of baking soda
    2. Add ten drops coconut oil and ten drops jasmine oil
    3. Add four ounces of distilled water and shake well

Routinely wash your hands

  • Wash before and after you touch anything you must keep clean
    • Your hands will start cracking if you obsessively clean them and you’ll have to protect them with lotion
  • The filthiest things you touch aren’t what you’d expect
    • The sinks in bathrooms, not necessarily the toilets
    • The menus in restaurants
    • Motor vehicle exteriors
  • Washing doesn’t need hot water, but it can be comforting to use it
  • Some substances on your hands need more than soap
    • Permanent marker
      • Rub hand sanitizer into your skin
    • Food stains from fruit or other organic material
      • Wipe hands with vinegar soaked in a towel
      • Rub a raw potato over the stains and then rinse with water
    • Tree sap
      • Rub nail polish remover into your hands
      • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
    • Grease or engine oil
      1. Apply hand lotion before working on an engine to cut back on grease
      2. Mix cooking oil and sugar in hands
        • You can use bath oil and salt, but it will irritate any cuts or scratches
      3. Scrub into hands
        • Focus more on knuckles, cuticles, nail beds and the creases in the palms of the hand
      4. Wash with warm water
        • Cold water won’t remove the oil
        • Hot water will remove the body’s natural oils
      5. Scrape any grease under fingernails with a nail stick
      6. Use a nail brush to scrub dish soap into uncleaned areas and rinse with warm water again
  • If you can’t get your ring off your finger
    • Lather the finger with soap
    • Run it under freezing water
  • Dry your hands
    • A paper towel decreases your chances of picking up diseases that prefer moisture
    • Drying with a hot-air hand dryer nearly triples the bacterial count

Dental hygiene is necessary for a well-maintained image but is also critical for health

A poor diet can harm teeth

  • Chewing ice creates microscopic fractures in the teeth
  • Drinking soda pop can damage enamel from coating the teeth in acid and sugars
  • Excessive alcohol consumption decreases saliva production, which increases dry mouth and tooth decay

Brush your teeth correctly twice a day

  1. Get the right kind of toothpaste
    • Only products with Novamin can repair your teeth
    • Make toothpaste yourself
      • Sprinkle baking soda onto your toothbrush
      • Use apple cider vinegar
      • Mix six teaspoons of baking soda, a teaspoon of Stevia powder, four teaspoons of vegetable glycerin or two tablespoons of coconut oil, and ten or twenty drops of peppermint oil in an airtight bowl
    • Routinely leave teeth-whitening toothpaste on your teeth for a few minutes before rinsing
  2. Brush your teeth before eating
    • Brushing is supposed to remove plaque, not food
    • Food softens the enamel and brushing right afterward can harm teeth
  3. Don’t wet the brush with water, since water reduces the toothpaste’s benefits
  4. Squeeze from the back of the tube to use what you need
    • Use hairpins to squeeze it more easily
    • Attach a binder clip at the end of the tube to get every last bit
  5. Angle the toothbrush to get in between the gums and brush in a circular motion
  6. If you want to eat anything right afterward, rinse out mouth with warm water
  7. Store the toothbrush somewhere where it won’t incubate mold
    • Attach it to a clothespin to make it easily accessible

Contrary to the marketing, flossing and mouthwash have little bearing on dental health

  • Rinsing your mouth with hot water after eating is usually enough to remove most bad breath
    • Gargle salt water for better results
  • Halitosis is a fake medical-sounding term for bad breath but has nothing to do with hygiene
    • Bad breath is relative from naturally occurring food odors
    • The cultural differences are most apparent when visiting another country
  • Make natural mouthwash if you want to purge a flavor or clean your mouth
    • Mix two tablespoons of Epsom salts into a cup of warm water until dissolved
    • Mix a half teaspoon of baking soda into four ounces of warm water until it’s dissolved

Grooming gives an impression of hygiene, and most cultures require it

The best way to appear well-groomed is to have a proper diet and exercise (more on this later)

Never groom around others, especially when trimming nails

You can often remove or mask odors without washing

Peel an orange

Rub the area hard with baking soda, then rinse

Rub vodka into your skin, especially for foot odor

Soak or wash in vinegar, especially for garlic and onion odor

Soak or wash in mouthwash one or two times a week

If a skunk has sprayed you, soak the affected areas in tomato juice

Avoid bad breath

Lick your wrist and smell it to know how your breath smells to others

If you routinely wake up with a gross taste in your mouth, drink a glass of water before going to bed

Brush your tongue when brushing your teeth to get rid of most bad breath

  • If you don’t have access to a toothbrush, scrape it with a spoon or wipe it with a paper napkin
  • Invest in a tongue brush to clean more thoroughly

Use breath mints when with others for an extended time

  • Gargling salt water is a natural substitute for mints

Drink water after drinking other beverages to purge sugars from your mouth

Eat parsley to remove the smell from garlic or onions

If someone offers a mint, it’s because you likely have bad breath and you should take one

Bad breath usually comes from diet

  • Watch strong foods like garlic or onions
  • Fiber-rich vegetables increase salivation and wash away bacteria
    • Crunchy vegetables also scrub off the teeth
  • Calcium from dairy products help re-mineralize teeth
  • Chewing gum helps produce saliva to lower the potency of acids in the mouth

Keep fingernails trimmed and filed

  • Wet your fingernails and the trimmer before cutting to avoid nails launching across the room

Sweat management is the simplest way to minimize odors

Sweat comes in two chemical variations

  1. Propionic acid smells a bit like vinegar
  2. Isovaleric acid smells a bit like cheese

Sweat comes from two different types of glands

  1. Eccrine glands are smaller and secrete mostly water directly to the skin to cool it down
  2. Apocrine glands are larger ones primarily around the armpits, groin, nipples, and eyelids and are responsible for most body odor

Multiple sources alter sweat production

  • Strong-smelling food like red meat, seafood, egg yolks, garlic, onions, yogurt, beans, asparagus, cabbage, and spices
  • A well-balanced diet low in sulfide-causing compounds
  • Medication that increases sweating
  • Hormonal changes like puberty or menopause
  • Genetics
  • Good hygiene or deodorants that cut down on bacteria or antiperspirants that cut down on sweating

Deodorant effectively masks body odor

Apply it the night before to increase its effectiveness

Use baking soda powder directly onto the armpit

Apply lemon juice to the arms

Make deodorant yourself

  1. Mix four ounces of baking soda and four ounces of cornstarch, tapioca starch or potato starch in a bowl until it’s clump-free
  2. Add eight to ten tablespoons coconut oil one tablespoon at a time, mixing each time, until the mixture is like dough
  3. Cut a one-foot square piece of cling wrap and spoon the mixture into it
  4. Place inside an empty toilet paper tube, then mold the excess to form a mound
  5. Wrap the excess cling wrap around the mound on top, then put in the freezer
  6. Take off the cling wrap cover and use like deodorant, push stick from the bottom

Give your hair a cleaner and more even look by soaking hair conditioner into it for at least a half hour

Make natural hair conditioner

  • Mix one part raw honey with two parts extra virgin olive oil
  • Mix two parts olive oil with three parts Epsom salts
  • Straight vodka can condition hair

You don’t need perfume or cologne, but it adds to your image

Cologne should only give a slight aroma to someone hugging you

Apply Vaseline before spraying to lengthen how long the scent stays on you

Men and women should stay clean-shaven, but men can often maintain a well-groomed beard

Treat a beard like a second head of hair

Avoid small nicks and cuts

  • Keep the razor clean and as sharp as possible
    • Hold it in a binder clip
    • Store in a container with silica bags
  • Never dry-shave by using a lubricant to avoid dry-shaving
    • Shave in the shower
    • Use shaving cream
    • Use olive oil
    • Use hair conditioner
    • Use soap lather
  • Shave with the hair’s grain

Keep your skin looking healthy

Clean any brushes or combs you use in a solution of water and baking soda

Watch for dry or ashy skin

  • Don’t use store-bought skin moisturizers, since they will often dry out skin over time
    • Mix honey with eggs and some flour
    • Mix honey with olive oil
  • Rub Vaseline into the skin, especially on cracked elbows or heels
  • Moisten baking soda and apply it to the skin
  • Add vinegar to a bath to help with dry skin

Heal your acne scars

  • Mix a teaspoon nutmeg with a tablespoon of honey and apply to skin for half an hour, then rinse and repeat daily
  • Apply a mixture of egg white and lemon juice, let dry and rinse off with warm water, repeat twice a week
  • Mix tomato and cucumber pulp and apply to the scars
  • Mix four teaspoons of lemon juice, two teaspoons of plain yogurt, four teaspoons of honey, and an egg white, then let it sit for fifteen minutes, then rinse with warm water

Try to prevent acne

  • Wash any makeup brushes in the dishwasher
  • Acne skin products often cause more breakouts over time, so don’t use them
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Drink oolong tea
  • Avoid touching your face with your hands
  • Keep your phone screen clean, along with anything else that gets near your face
  • Wash your face before going to bed
  • Washing your pillowcase daily or covering your pillow with a clean towel will clear up acne within two or three weeks
    • Alternately, use a T-shirt as a pillowcase to make it easier to wash
  • Eating yogurt and fruit will decrease acne breaking out
  • Turning the shower to cold before you get out tightens the pores and reduces the chances of acne
  • Apply Elmer’s glue to your face, then wait for it to dry and peel it off
  • Mix honey with brown sugar and scrub onto the skin
  • Remove makeup every night to avoid acne breakouts
    • Vaseline can remove eye makeup
    • Vodka tightens the pores and removes makeup, which reduces chances for acne
    • Rubbing alcohol often dries out the skin, so use skin treatments

Treat acne breakouts as you find them

  • Apply mouthwash to it
  • Apply vodka to it
  • Rub aloe vera into it
  • Apply an ice cube to the acne
    • For more effectiveness, press a tissue wetted with eye drops against it for three minutes
  • Break open an Advil liquid gel capsule and apply the liquid from it
  • Dissolve an aspirin in enough warm water to make a paste, then rub it into it
  • Apply raw honey to it and put a Band-Aid over, then let it sit it overnight
  • Apply toothpaste to it overnight
  • Mix olive oil and sugar and apply to the area
  • Make an Epsom salts acne treatment
    1. Combine a cup boiling water, three drops of iodine, and a tablespoon of Epsom salts
    2. Let it cool and store in an airtight glass container
    3. Dab at blemishes with a cotton swab or cotton ball
    4. Let it sit for up to ten minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water
  • If you must pop acne and can’t because it’s too painful, put it under hot water for a few seconds
  • Wear red clothing to hide any breakouts

Reduce the appearance of bruises

  • Hold a banana peel on it for ten to thirty minutes
  • Apply a cotton ball soaked in vinegar

Treat any scars

  • Regularly apply honey to bleach the scars
  • Men can sometimes get away with scars, but women don’t have that luxury on most of their bodies

If you get a sunburn

  • Take a hot shower to make the sunburn come off more easily
  • Take off the flakes with a lint roller

Don’t neglect skin problems like eczema, rosacea or psoriasis

  • Oily food tends to make psoriasis worse
  • Apply raw honey to the affected area and rinse off after twenty minutes

Warts aren’t uncommon, but they are unsightly

  • Apply duct tape consistently to the wart to remove it
  • Dissolve an aspirin in water to make a paste and apply it, then tape over it with duct tape
  • Apply apple cider vinegar

Try whitening your teeth

  • Rub the inside of a banana peel inside your mouth for two minutes for the minerals to absorb into your enamel
  • Make a baking soda/strawberry teeth whitener
    1. Make a paste of a half teaspoon of baking soda and a mashed-up strawberry
    2. Spread onto teeth with a toothbrush or finger
    3. Let it sit for five minutes, rinse out and brush with toothpaste

Depending on your body and culture, a tattoo might look good on you

  • Hang a picture of a tattoo you want somewhere you’ll see every day for a year
  • If you still want it after a year, it’s worth getting
  • Keep in mind that the tattoo will stretch over time
    • Changing or updating tattoos later can be extremely expensive and painful

Almost all advanced grooming is female-only but is necessary to feel beautiful

Make sure your body looks healthy without makeup before applying it

  • The more the body is exposed, the more grooming it generally needs

Store all the makeup you have in a glasses or sunglasses case

Most advanced grooming comes from your culture, so observe your peers

The beauty industry needs constant dissatisfaction to market their products and delivers a continuous message of “you’re not good-looking enough”

Since beauty is relative, most women are attractive as they are even if they don’t believe it

Many elements of appearance are more attractive than they may seem

  • Most men have a unique personal preference in hair color
  • Some societies prefer women to have all their body hair, while others prefer armpits and legs shaven
  • Some cultures don’t use makeup at all, while others practically require it
  • Poorer countries often favor a pale complexion, while wealthier ones like tanned skin
    • Freckles, especially in pale skin, are often seen as attractive

Most of your grooming should concern itself with your skin

Try to use natural skin treatments for a better long-term effect

  • Many cosmetic products have slivers on the ends of the tubes
    • Green means the product is all-natural
    • Red means it has both natural and synthetic ingredients
    • Black is an all-synthetic product
  • Beeswax can mix with any oil to make a lotion-like formula
  • Coconut oil is by itself is an excellent moisturizer

Tighten up the skin

  • Mix ten drops each in a jar
    • Carrot seed oil
    • Geranium oil
    • Sandalwood oil
    • Rosemary oil
    • Coconut oil
    • Lemon oil
    • Apricot oil
  • Make a body scrub with two cups Epsom salts, two tablespoons of olive oil, juice from half of a medium-sized lemon and herbs of your choice
  • Make a body scrub with any olive oil, sugar and lemon drops or lemon oil

Take baths to soften your skin

  • Add a half cup or more of baking soda
  • Add slices of ginger to the bath
  • Add essential oils to the bathwater

Pay particular attention to your face

  • Honey is an excellent facial mask by itself
  • Mix a teaspoon of Epsom salt and a cup of coconut oil in a bowl
  • Mix a teaspoon of honey with a mashed-up banana and a few drops of lemon juice, apply and let sit for fifteen minutes, wash with a cold washcloth

Apply body butter daily

  • Epsom salts mix
    1. Mix two tablespoons of boiling water with four ounces of Epsom salts and let cool
    2. Combine a tablespoon of candelilla wax, three tablespoons of shea butter and a half cup of unrefined coconut oil in a jar
    3. Place the jar in a pan with water and place over medium heat until mixture melts
    4. Add in Epsom salt mixture slowly
    5. Place in the fridge for fifteen minutes before blending again to get the right consistency
  • Oil mix
    • Add together a cup of jojoba oil, a half cup of coconut oil, six tablespoons of vitamin E oil, ten drops of wheat germ oil, and twenty-five drops of musk oil
  • Shea butter mix
    • Mix a cup shea butter in a bowl with an electric mixer until it’s light and fluffy
    • Place in a double boiler if you want to make it even lighter

Keep your hands soft with hand cream

  1. In a double boiler melt an ounce of beeswax, then mix in three-quarters to one cup of water and a quarter teaspoon of borax
  2. Stir in olive oil, scented oils, aloe vera and vitamin E
  3. Put in clean jars and cover

Use the right kind of blush for your skin

  • Typical skin can use powder, cream or liquid, but only use powder for oily skin and cream or liquid for dry or older skin
  • Use the right color for your skin tone
    • Mix Vaseline with lipstick to make a creme blush
  • Apply powder with a broad, soft brush and use fingers or a wedge sponge with cream or liquid
  • Put the blush on the fullest area when you smile, blend up and back towards the hairline

If you can, keep your skin a bronzed shade

  • Tanning salons cause the same risks for skin cancer as constant sun exposure
  • Sparingly use spray tan, since too much will give a strange orange skin color
  • Eat more meat and dairy products to maintain your tan through the colder winter months
  • If you have freckles or moles
    • Rub apple cider vinegar into it daily
    • Apply lemon juice onto it daily

Get a foundation that accurately matches your skin tone, accounting for tanning as well

  • It should be two shades lighter than your skin tone to highlight

Contour with a low or non-shimmer bronzer

  • Most contouring is trial-and-error, but the more you use, the more it defines and draws attention

Keep your lips healthy

Look at the ingredients of lip balm carefully

  • Many lip balm companies use drying agents like formaldehyde that require you to need their product more in the long-term
  • Make natural lip balm
    1. Mix a teaspoon of raw honey, a teaspoon of brown sugar, and a few drops of lemon juice
    2. Apply to lips and gently rub off after five minutes

Use lip gloss to accentuate the rest of your face

  • Vaseline is a good substitute for lip gloss

Apply lipstick to draw more attention to your lips

  1. Rub Vaseline on teeth if you’re concerned about lipstick stains
  2. Apply to the top lip in the center
  3. Apply to the bottom lip in the center
  4. Fill in the top lip from the outside inward
  5. Fill in the bottom lip from the outside inward

Keep your hair looking nice

Store extra hairpins in a Tic Tac container

Store hair ties on a key ring or a carabiner

If you have no time to wash your hair, apply shampoo without water for a few minutes and then brush it out

Routinely untangle your hair

  • Use a boar’s hair brush or other thick brush
  • Run liberal amounts of conditioners through with your fingers
  • Run a squeegee through it to pick up any loose hair

Use a pre-shampoo rinse before washing to remove any styling product residue

  1. Combine a teaspoon of Epsom salts, a half cup of lemon juice, a teaspoon of baking soda and a cup of hot water, let dissolve and cool
    • Alternately, use pure vinegar
  2. Pour and gently massage mixture into slightly dampened scalp and let soak for twenty minutes
  3. Rinse thoroughly and follow with regular shampoo routine

Squeeze a lemon or lime into your hair to stop it from frizzing in humid weather

Rub Vaseline on split ends in between haircuts

Speed up your hair growth

  • Eat onions, garlic or salmon
  • Massage aloe vera into the scalp, let it sit for an hour, then rinse with warm water

Take a photo of a style you want when you go to a hairstylist to help them know what you want

Styling doesn’t have to be complicated, and a busy life makes it difficult for elaborate work

  • Curl hair easily
    • Twist up hair into ropes, then use the flat iron to curl it
  • Straighten hair easily
    • Mix a cup of water with two tablespoons of brown sugar, spray onto damp hair and air dry
  • Grab locks of hair and twist them, then secure them with hairpins
  • Make a high bun
    • Keep your hair dirty to make it easier to make a bun
    • Bend over and grab all of your hair at the crown
    • wrap a hair elastic around the base after you’ve wrapped it
  • Pull the hair through a hair tie for a ponytail
    • Use a vacuum hose to speed up the task

Color your hair carefully

  • The more you color your hair, the more it will look frayed and frazzled
  • If pool chlorine bleached your hair
    1. Dissolve six to eight aspirin pills in warm water
    2. Coat your hair with the solution, let it sit for about twelve minutes, then rinse
  • Bleach your hair naturally
    • Soak it in a mixture of a tablespoon of honey and six tablespoons of distilled water for one hour every week
      • Add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder for more dramatic results

Remove unwanted body hair

Shave your legs and arms

  • Instead of shaving cream, use hair conditioner to moisturize your skin
  • Apply raw honey to the shaved area and wash off after about twelve minutes to preemptively avoid razor burn

Removing hair doesn’t need a product or constant shaving

  • Honey-sugar mix
    1. Mix a tablespoon of raw honey, three tablespoons of brown sugar, and a teaspoon of lemon juice
    2. Boil until it turns brown, let it cool
    3. Apply to skin with a popsicle stick
    4. Put a piece of cotton over the area and rub until it feels warm from the mixture sticking to the hair
    5. Gently pull the cotton against the direction of hair growth
  • Mix six parts coffee grounds with one part baking soda and rub into the base of the hair every day for a week
  • Apply a paste of a tablespoon of honey, a half tablespoon of ground oatmeal, and a few drops of lemon juice, rinse off after fifteen minutes, repeat two to three times a week for a month

Keep nails healthy-looking

Rub apple cider vinegar into the cuticles

Mix a teaspoon of raw honey with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, apply to the nails, then rinse off after ten minutes

Keep your hands and feet clean with manicures and pedicures

  • If you work with your hands often, a manicure isn’t necessary
  • Pedicures are often a luxury, but essential if you’re accentuating your legs

Make natural pedicure liquid

  • Mix ten drops lavender oil, two drops of flavored vodka, two cups lemon juice and a half cup of glycerin in a bottle

Paint nails the right way

  1. Start with clean and oil-free nails
    • Put the nail polish in the fridge for fifteen minutes before applying to make it paint more easily
    • Set Elmer’s glue around the nail to prevent painting the cuticles
  2. Apply a base coat to prepare them
  3. Place one drop of nail polish in the center of the nail
  4. Push the polish toward the cuticle
  5. Brush upwards to the top of the nail
  6. Swipe from the base along the nail curve on each side, brushing up until you’ve covered the sides
  7. Apply a top coat to prevent chipping
    • Dry them instantly by putting them in ice water
    • If you place them in cold water for three minutes, the polish will dry completely and will wash away any that was on the skin
  8. Keep it well-maintained or use nail polish remover when it starts fading
  9. As you get better at it, try painting with creative styles
    • Break a glow stick and add it to clear fluid for late-night party nails

Learn how to manage grooming crises

If you have dark circles under your eyes

  • Apply coffee grounds to the eyes for about twelve minutes
  • Apply a teaspoon of raw honey for twenty minutes then rinse off, repeat twice a week
    • For better results, mix a teaspoon of raw honey and a teaspoon of sweet almond oil for about twelve minutes then rinse off, repeat twice a week

If you have red, puffy or irritated eyes

  • Apply Preparation H, since it’s meant to constrict your blood vessels
  • Mix equal parts Epsom salts and hot water, let it sit until it’s a comfortable temperature
  • Soak a clean cloth in the solution and place over closed eyes for two to three minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cold water
  • Apply an ice cube to the area

If you have unwanted redness in your face, apply a mix of egg yolk and lemon juice

Hickeys can be embarrassing (when someone kisses you hard enough to leave a skin mark, usually on the neck)

  • Apply a cold spoon or ice cube to the affected area
  • Scrape the hickey with a coin
  • Brush the hickey with a toothbrush

Pay extra attention to your eyes

Pluck and shape eyebrows to make your face look like an oval

  • Longer faces need a flat shape to break up the visual aesthetic of the face
  • Rounder faces need a high arch with a definite curve
  • Square faces use a curved shape and then add more angle to create balance
  • Pointed chins start with a high arch and curved brow, then add more volume
  • Alternately, remove the eyebrows and apply eyeliner

Apply eyeshadow and eyeliner

  • Pay attention to where your eyes are
    • Close-set eyes should have eyeshadow on the outside to spread them out
    • Downturned eyes should have eyeshadow above it on the outside to lift them
    • Deep-set eyes should blend from lighter on the inside to darker on the outside
    • Protruding eyes should have a medium eyeshadow on the upper and lower lids
    • Hooded eyes need lightly applied matte colors
  • You can reuse old eyeshadow mixed with clear polish as a matte polish

Keep your eyelashes looking long and healthy

  • Use an eyelash curler to increase how long and full your eyelashes look
  • Enhance your eyelashes further with mascara
    • Mix in about four drops of saline when mascara gets dry
      • You can repeat this two or three times
    • Use Vaseline as an eyelash conditioner

Your jewelry should accentuate your natural features

Untangle your jewelry with baby powder

Draw more attention to your face

  • Wear earrings
    • Hoop earrings soften features, so don’t wear them if you have a round face
  • Wear a necklace
    • A necklace usually has a story behind it

Draw more attention to your hands, legs, and feet with rings or bangles

  • Too many rings will look excessive
